OCC Updates Bank Accounting Advisory Series for National Banks
The OCC released the 2026 edition of its Bank Accounting Advisory Series, providing updated staff responses to frequently asked accounting questions for national banks, federal savings associations, federal branches and agencies of foreign banking organizations, and examiners.
In the 2026 edition, the Office of the Chief Accountant compiled interpretations of generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory guidance based on the facts and circumstances presented. The guidance promoted consistent application of accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements across the national banking system.
The 2026 edition incorporated recent updates to standards issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, covering such topics as purchased loans, government grants, and internal-use software. The Office noted that the advisory series represented staff interpretations rather than binding rules or regulations.
The bulletin announcing the 2026 edition rescinded OCC Bulletin 2025-20, which conveyed the 2025 edition.
