SEC Establishes Financial Reporting and Accounting Unit Within Division of Enforcement
The SEC established a new specialized Financial Reporting and Accounting Unit within its Division of Enforcement to pursue accounting and financial reporting fraud.
The SEC said the unit was designed to focus on suspected accounting and financial reporting fraud, as well as general misconduct in the accounting and auditing profession. The agency will staff the unit with attorneys and accountants who have expertise in financial reporting, accounting, and auditing. The SEC is directing the unit to coordinate with staff across all SEC divisions.
Timothy Zimmerman, who joined the Enforcement Division in May 2026 as a senior adviser to the Director of Enforcement, was named to lead the unit.
