California Amends Law to Cover All Publicly Accessible Generative AI Providers
California enacted SB 1000, which amends its AI Transparency Act to cover every generative AI provider with a publicly accessible system in the state.
SB 1000 eliminates the law's exemption of providers with less than 1 million monthly users. Exclusively non-user-generated video games remain exempt. Systems that function primarily as assistive technology are exempt until January 1, 2029.
The amended Act also replaces the law's detection tool and revises its licensee rules. SB 1000 took effect on enactment.
