CME Halts New Expiries for Sports, Culture Event Swaps
CME self-certified amendments to its listing schedule that stop it from making additional expiries of its sports and cultural event contract swaps available for trading.
The exchange filed the submission with the CFTC under CFTC Rule 40.6(a) ("Self-certification of rules"). In the submission, CME stated that it would cease availing additional expiries for trading on the CME Globex electronic trading platform. The affected contracts cover events such as sporting contests, the Oscars, and the Grammy Awards. CME confirmed that existing expiries already listed continue to trade and remain subject to the exchange's rules, including prohibitions on fraudulent, manipulative, and disruptive trading practices.
Existing expiries also remain subject to a position reporting level of 500 contracts and a single-month accountability level of 25,000 contracts, and continue to clear through CME Clearing. The exchange noted that its Market Regulation Department continues to monitor trading activity.
The submission was to be certified on September 11, 2026.
